Volunteering
Children who have been abused, mistreated, or abandoned live in extreme poverty and often in very violent environments. Casa Alianza is there to help and support them in their efforts.
In Geneva, the Casa Alianza Switzerland team reviews all applications received that meet the following criteria:
- You must be committed to the cause, sensitive to the issues facing vulnerable children, and motivated by hands-on experience. Casa Alianza operates in major cities across Central America and Mexico, where the population is vulnerable, violence is widespread, and the challenges are complex. The work of rehabilitating vulnerable children is an ongoing challenge.
- You must have skills that can be put to use in the Casas, whether working directly with children (youth worker, educator, nurse, psychologist, etc.) or indirectly if you have specialized skills (IT, law, accounting, plumbing, electrical work, etc.)
- A commitment of 4 to 6 months is required. It is important to be able to fully commit to the mission and integrate into the program. This takes time, and the experience must provide value not only to the volunteer but also to Casa Alianza. However, certain specific, shorter-term assignments—defined and approved by the field team—may be exceptions to this rule.
- Fluency in Spanish is essential to quickly become operational in the work and to be able to communicate with the youth.
Going into the field is, above all, a significant commitment to an organization, and this entails respecting the NGO’s mission, its staff, and the adolescents in the organization’s care. Working alongside vulnerable children is a great responsibility and can sometimes be challenging. The final hiring decision is made by the Human Resources Director of the Casas.
